The head of the emergency room in the city of Kufra, Ismail Al-Aida, reported today, Saturday, that the number of displaced Sudanese in Libya exceeded 500,000 displaced during the past year.
Al-Aydah pointed out the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the city of Kufra due to the continuous increase in the number of displaced people on a daily basis.
In press statements, Al-Aydah confirmed that the city of Kufra is witnessing deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of the enormous pressure on basic resources and services.
He explained that the displaced face a shortage of basic needs such as shelter, food, and health care.
According to him, no support was provided during the past two years, which exacerbated the suffering of the displaced and the inability of the emergency room to meet their increasing needs.
The conflict began in the capital, Khartoum, on April 15, 2023, and quickly expanded to most parts of the country, creating a widespread crisis that left 64% of the population of 47.5 million people in need of food aid.
Today, Saturday, the Sudanese army and its allied factions entered the city of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazira State, without a fight, after the “Rapid Support” forces withdrew.
Earlier yesterday, the Sudanese army regained control of a strategic area, in Al-Jazira State (central), 40 kilometers from the state capital, Wad Madani, after violent battles that continued for three nights.
Sudanese army sources said that the armed forces regained the “Umm al-Qura” locality of Al-Jazira State, which was under the control of the “Rapid Support Forces,” and tightened the siege on the city of Wad Madani, the capital of the state, as part of the Sudanese army’s attempts to recover the city, which is the second largest city in Sudan. Army platforms broadcast video clips of its forces deploying in the region, and of citizens rejoicing at the expulsion of the Rapid Support Forces.
“Umm al-Qura” is about 40 kilometers east of the city of Wad Madani, and it is considered one of the important localities (administrative division) in the state of Jazira due to its population density, its location on the fertile “Butana Plain,” and it includes a number of villages. The city of Umm al-Qura is the local metropolis of the same name.
