The latest report from the Non-Governmental Organization Prisoners Defenders indicated that the number of political prisoners in Cubawith 1,113 detainees registered as of September 30, 2024.
In this sense, the NGO indicated that all those detained for political reasons and conscience “suffer judicial sentences or measures that limit freedom by prosecutors without any judicial control, fair trial or defense in flagrant violation of international law.”
Likewise, Prisoners Defenders pointed out that in August a total of 1,105 political prisoners in Cubaso in September there are 13 more people imprisoned for political reasons.
Likewise, the report details that at least five detained for thinking differently from the communist dictatorship regained their freedom after completing their sentences.
For his part, Javier Larrondo, president of Prisoners Defenders, stated that the Castro regime has set out to destroy independent civil society, but the repression not only affects activists and dissidents, but also their families.
It is worth mentioning that, in the report, it is indicated that of the total number of political prisoners in Cuba there are 116 women, 30 minors, 356 suffer from medical pathologies and 62 have health disorders.
“The harassment and harassment of the Cuban regime against activists, journalists and relatives of political prisoners in Cuba has become a common practice. “The relatives of the political prisoners of 11J suffer continuous arrests, harassment, besieged homes, police summonses, fines and threats,” adds the Prisoners Defenders report.
