The occurrence and course of sinusitis in children. Methods of treatment and prevention

by time news

Hymoritis is a common disease in childhood, during which inflammation of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinuses occurs (often purulent).

The main reason for the development of the pathology is the blockage of the passages connecting the sinuses with the nose, as a result of which the ventilation of the channels deteriorates and a favorable environment is created for the reproduction of pathogenic microflora. A similar situation can arise from infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, deviation of the nasal septum, adenoid hypertrophy, etc.

Hymoritis causes considerable discomfort to the child and greatly disrupts the normal lifestyle. There are symptoms such as nasal pain, purulent discharge, etc. Untimely treatment of the pathology can lead to serious complications: meningitis, brain abscess, inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, etc. That is why parents should consult with a qualified ENT doctor even at the first manifestations of sinusitis.

A distinctive symptom of sinusitis is a feeling of pressure and heaviness in the nose. In this case, the pain often occurs after sleeping, it can be localized on one or both sides of the nose. In addition, the patient has recurring headaches of varying intensity.

Another characteristic manifestation is the violation of nasal breathing. Nasal congestion can be replaced by temporary relief of breathing, sometimes congestion in one nostril is replaced by congestion in another, for example, when changing the position of the head.

increased body temperature

weakness

rapid fatigue.

The disease develops as a result of pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi or their combinations) entering the sinuses. The most common pathogens are: streptococcus, staphylococcus, pneumococcus, haemophilus influenzae, rhinovirus, coronavirus, parainfluenza viruses, etc.

Usually, a healthy child’s organism is able to independently overcome the infection that occurs in the sinuses. However, under certain factors, the child’s immune defense power decreases, and the body becomes weak and unable to resist pathogens.

Immunity decrease and: microorganisms penetration nose maxillary sinuses provocative factors են՝

the presence of diseases of the upper respiratory tract: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, chronic or acute rhinitis,

inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity: caries, stomatitis,

adenoid hypertrophy,

anatomically narrow nostrils,

the presence of polyps and other growths in the nasal cavity,

deviation of the nasal septum.

For the drainage of the maxillary sinuses, the “cuckoo” washing method is used (because during the procedure the child must say “cuckoo-cuckoo”). Disinfectant solutions are used, which are injected into the nasal cavity. Under the influence of negative pressure, conditions are created for the discharge of purulent secretions from the maxillary sinuses.

In complex cases that do not respond to conservative treatment, it may be necessary to perform a surgical intervention – maxillary sinusotomy.

When the first suspicious signs of sinusitis appear, it is necessary to register the child for consultation without wasting time, because the delay in treatment is a big risk in the background of the development of more serious diseases.
