For the second day in a row, the activities of the training program for the second edition of the project to strengthen women’s leadership in Libya (Pioneers Project), which was launched yesterday, Sunday, October 20, 2024, in partnership between the High National Elections Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, the Women’s Support Office at the United Nations, and the Organization of… UNICEF, with the participation of (35) trainees from various regions of Libya.
The activities of the morning session of today, Monday, October 21, 2024, witnessed “a group of introductory presentations about the organizations contributing to this project, in which the following participated: Sanaa Bernaz from UNICEF, Amal Harib from UN Women, Julia Day from the United Nations Development Programme, and Bryony Taylor.” The head of the information office of the United Nations mission, Maryam Jaafar from the mission’s human rights office, and Salina Joshi, the mission’s women’s advisor.
In the same context, “the Commission participated in a number of events and presentations, to introduce its departments and tasks, as the Women’s Support Unit Coordinator, Najwa Barzwil, gave a presentation about the Commission, its tasks and structure, and the concept of elections and electoral awareness and its principles.”
Nada Faraj, from the Voter Registration Department, also gave a presentation on voter registration and receiving a (voter) card. For her part, Nayrouz Al-Qammoudi, from the Candidate Registration Department, gave a presentation introducing candidacy, candidacy conditions, and general statistics about the candidates, while Malak Al-Shali, from the Accreditation Department, presented Observers, a presentation explaining how observers are accredited and what their role is in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The evening session witnessed “other training activities, including a presentation on women’s participation in the electoral process presented by Nayrouz Al-Badawi, in which she discussed the importance of women’s voices in the process of democratic transformation.”
In the same context, Hawa Baraka gave an introductory presentation about the Women’s Support Unit, which dealt with the decision to establish it, its tasks, and the most prominent activities and achievements of the unit since its establishment until the present time. The head of the Media Monitoring Unit, Heba Abu Shehma, also participated in giving a presentation about the platform for monitoring electronic violence directed against women. She gave an overview of The platform and the reports and statistics issued by the platform.”
