The <a href="http://www.time.news/iraq-plays-an-important-role-in-the-opec-ministerial-committee/" title="Iraq plays an important role in the OPEC+ Ministerial Committee »”>Hajj and Umrah Authority confirmed today, Monday, that the population census is the basis for determining pilgrims’ seats, while indicating continued communication with the Saudi side in this regard.
Director of the Legal Department at the Hajj and Umrah Authority, Hassan Al-Moussawi, told the (INA): “The competent authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rely on population census data to determine seats for pilgrims.”
He explained, “In Iraq, a census has not been conducted for a long time, and therefore the updates supported by the United Nations Population Fund were adopted.”
He added, “After conducting the population census, the Saudi side will be contacted in order to allocate seats for pilgrims in light of the census results,” pointing out, “The Saudi side emphasizes that the distribution of seats must depend on conducting the population census and that the numbers must be accurate and internationally recognized.”
