Today, Thursday, the Presidency of the Republic issued a clarification regarding what was reported about the issuance of wholesale presidential decrees approving death sentences in terrorism cases, while warning against suspicious attempts led by some infiltrators whose interests were harmed by the demise of the dictatorial regime and the defeat of the terrorist ISIS.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, received by the (INA), stated, “Some suspicious pages belonging to some of those wanted by the judiciary and intelligence officers during the time of the previous regime, whose hands were stained with the blood of Iraqis, circulated news that republican decrees were issued in bulk to ratify the death sentences issued to those convicted of terrorist crimes.” “.
He continued, “Here we would like to point out that such false news promoted by Iraq’s enemies seeks to create chaos, mix the cards, and stir up the street in light of the exceptional circumstances the region is going through.”
He added, “The Presidency of the Republic will not hesitate to carry out its duties in approving death sentences for terrorists whose hands are stained with the blood of innocent Iraqis after the ruling fulfills all legal procedures, including cassation, retrial, and presentation to the Special Pardon Committee.”
He stressed, “The President of the Republic is keen on adhering to the Constitution and completing legal procedures against those convicted, and he is responsible for protecting the blood of innocent Iraqis and exacting retribution from their killers.”
The statement called on “those who have been sentenced to death or their relatives who have not met their legal procedures to submit their applications to the Presidency of the Republic in order to transfer them to the competent judicial authorities.”
He pointed out, “What was promoted on the suspicious pages has nothing to do with the truth and is pure lies and slander,” warning against “these suspicious attempts led by some infiltrators whose interests were harmed by the demise of the dictatorial regime and the defeat of the terrorist organization ISIS.”
The statement also called for “being careful in circulating news on social media and other media and verifying it before publishing it, as the enemies of Iraq will not hesitate to fabricate lies and create crises with the intention of harming Iraq and its people.”
