The President of the Transition exchanges with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa on the sidelines of COP 28

Dubai, November 30, 2023 Staying in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates as part of his participation in COP 28, the President of the Transition, President of the Republic, Head of State, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema is discussed today on the sidelines of the high-level session of Heads of State with Mr. Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

Newly appointed to the head of the said Commission, the Executive Secretary of the CEA took advantage of the audience granted to him by the Head of State to discuss the preservation and local exploitation of natural and ecosystem resources which constitute a essential point in the economic valorization of said resources.

The representative of the UN institution thus salutes Gabon’s leadership and involvement in the fight against global warming. With its vast forest cover (i.e. 88% of the total surface) and its CO2 absorption estimated at more than 100 million tonnes, Gabon

inevitably constitutes one of the largest green lungs on the planet and requires significant financial support.

At the end of this meeting, the President of the Republic and his host discussed the financial mechanisms to be put in place by the CEA in order to support our country’s involvement in this matter.

Furthermore, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema spoke with Mr. Farhad Abasov, Canadian Minister of Economy and Environment and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group Millenial Potash.

This interview focused mainly on the development and preservation of the environment as well as the potash exploitation project in the Nyanga province.

World leader in the exploitation of potassium, the firm represented by the Canadian minister acquired in September 2022 a potassium deposit exploitation project entitled “ project Millennial potash of Houses “ located in the south of Gabon. Profitable mining which should generate jobs for many Gabonese people.

With a large potassium deposit on its coast (estimated at nearly 2 billion tonnes), Gabon represents one of the largest potash basins in the world.

To this end, the President of the Transition discussed with the member of the Canadian government all the contours linked to the execution of the said project in compliance with the standards in force in our country.
