Today, Friday, in the city of Tripoli, a joint meeting was held between the Presidential Council, headed by the President of the Council and the Council’s Deputy, with the African Union delegation headed by the current President of the Union, the President of the Republic of Mauritania, “Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani”, accompanied by the Chairman of the African Union Commission, “Moussa Faki”, and the Special Representative of the President of the Congo. Brazzaville, Chairman of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Claude Jacossault.
The meeting reviewed, “the steps taken since the launch of the national reconciliation process led by the Presidential Council in partnership with the African Union and with the support of the international community through the relevant Security Council resolutions, the outcomes of the Berlin process, the challenges facing the achievement of this historic entitlement, and the ways to overcome them.”
The meeting constitutes “a continuation of the African Union’s commitment to the path of national reconciliation and to the unity, sovereignty and stability of Libya in the face of external interference, which was confirmed by President Ghazouani, Faki and Minister Jean-Claude in their words, which come as an embodiment of the decision of the African Union in its session held in February 2024, and of the Brazzaville call issued by the Summit.” The African Union High-Level Committee on Libya.
The President of the Presidential Council delivered a speech at the conclusion of the meeting, in which he praised “this step of meeting in Tripoli and the meanings and messages it carries that express Africa’s commitment to helping Libya overcome these circumstances and Libya’s fateful affiliation to the continent of Africa,” praising “the role played by the Congolese President.” And the African Union Commission, which was strengthened by the election of President Ould Sheikh Ghazouani as President of the African Union at its current session.”
President Mohamed Al-Menfi stressed that “the Presidential Council is not a party to the conflict in Libya, and it is in contact with all parties, and is keen to exclude any of them in the path of reconciliation. It continues to strengthen the approach of national partnership and achieve national ownership of the solution. He also blessed the African Union’s initiative to hold a meeting.” For the Libyan parties involved in the reconciliation process in Addis Ababa.”
