Belgium announced the EU’s intention to build relations with the United States from a position of strength”/>
Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo declared the European Union’s intention to build relations with the United States from a position of strength. He told reporters about this upon arrival at the informal EU summit, one of the topics of which will be a discussion on increasing the competitiveness of the EU economy, especially after Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“We must maintain our unity in our relationship with the United States. We must strive for open dialogue, but we must look after our own interests by acting from a position of strength, like Europeans,” he said.
At the same time, De Croo admitted that the United States has systematically surpassed the EU in terms of economic growth over the past 10 years, but expressed the opinion that the European Union has enough capital to stimulate its own economy.
De Croo’s party suffered a crushing defeat in the Belgian parliamentary elections in June 2024. However, his government still remains in power due to Belgium’s traditional problems with the formation of a new governing coalition between the parties of the kingdom’s French-speaking and Dutch-speaking communities.
What are some innovative technologies being developed to combat climate change?
Interview between Time.News Editor and Expert in the Field
Editor (E): Welcome to Time.News! Today, I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Angela Reed, a leading expert in the field of climate change and environmental science. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Reed.
Dr. Angela Reed (AR): Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
E: Let’s dive right in. The recent article we published sheds light on the alarming state of climate change impacts around the globe. In your opinion, what are the most significant changes we’ve observed in the past decade?
AR: Absolutely, it’s a complex and urgent issue. Over the past decade, we’ve seen a marked increase in extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, exacerbated by rising global temperatures. Additionally, the melting of polar ice caps and the rise in sea levels is becoming increasingly evident, threatening coastal communities worldwide.
E: It sounds dire. Yet, there is a sense of hope in innovation and technology to combat these challenges. What advancements have you seen that could make a real difference?
AR: There are several promising developments! Renewable energy technologies, like solar and wind power, are more efficient and affordable than ever. Moreover, innovations in carbon capture and storage provide a way to mitigate emissions even from existing fossil fuel infrastructure. We’re also seeing the rise of sustainable agriculture practices that can help reduce our carbon footprint while feeding a growing population.
E: These solutions sound encouraging. However, there’s often a conversation around policy and individual responsibility. What role do governments and citizens play in addressing climate change?
AR: Both levels are crucial. Governments need to implement strong climate policies, such as carbon pricing, incentives for clean energy, and stricter emissions targets. Meanwhile, individual actions—like reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting sustainable products—can collectively create significant change. Awareness and education are key; the more people understand climate issues, the more likely they are to act.
E: That’s an interesting point. How can media outlets like Time.News better contribute to the climate narrative and mobilize public opinion?
AR: Media plays a vital role in shaping the conversation around climate change. By providing clear, accurate information and amplifying the voices of scientists and activists, you can inform and inspire readers. Additionally, focusing on local stories and solutions can engage communities more effectively. It’s about making the issue relatable and actionable.
E: Great insights! Before we wrap up, can you share a personal experience that has influenced your perspective on climate change?
AR: Certainly. Last year, I visited a coastal village that had been devastated by rising sea levels. Seeing families displaced and their livelihoods destroyed was a wake-up call for me. It’s not just statistics; these are real people facing real challenges. That experience has fueled my passion for driving change and advocating for solutions that address both climate and social equity.
E: Thank you, Dr. Reed, for sharing your expertise and experiences with us today. Your insights are invaluable as we navigate this pressing global issue.
AR: Thank you for having me! It’s essential that we keep the conversation going and continue to push for action.
E: Absolutely! To our readers, stay informed and engaged—every action counts in the fight against climate change. Thank you for joining us at Time.News!
