The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement received by the (INA): “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani received German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his accompanying delegation.”
The statement added, “The meeting discussed the situation in Syria, the latest developments there, and the European and international role in helping the Syrians to achieve stability and preserve Syria’s unity and security, as well as emphasizing the necessity of non-interference in Syrian affairs, and that the people are the ones who decide the fate of their country.”
According to the statement, the Prime Minister stated Iraq’s readiness to “provide assistance to the Syrians at this critical stage,” stressing “the importance of ensuring the representation of all components of the Syrian people in the new regime, in a way that achieves the aspirations of this people who deserve to live in security and peace.”
The statement continued, “The meeting witnessed a discussion of bilateral relations between Iraq and germany, a discussion of joint cooperation in various fields, and a reference to Germany’s role in supporting Iraq within the North Atlantic Treaty Institution (NATO) mission and the international coalition.”
Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, Iraq’s keenness to “sustain relations with Germany as an crucial economic partner.”
For his part, Pistorius conveyed the greetings of the German Chancellor to the “Prime Minister,” expressing “his country’s aspiration to develop security and military relations in the field of training, and to expand them in other fields, in accordance with what was agreed upon during the Sudanese visit to Berlin last year.”
