The report cards: Gazzelle, D’Argen D’amico, French Saints and Rose Villain impress

Of Manuela Ballo

Mr.Rain – “Two swings
A reassuring voice, verses like brushstrokes and a performance that practically follows last year’s. This time there is no children’s choir and therefore he uses pop and rap intertwining them. This year he won’t make it to the podium, but being very young he still has time to gain experience.

Bnkr44 – “Punk Government
They looked like a school group on a trip, with a piece unsuitable for a good Sanremo presence. Some bizarre lyrics with figurative imagery imagining someone brushing their teeth with gin. It seems like the story of a generation running away from itself.

Gazelles – “That’s all
A novel in music. An opening worthy of his style, with the piano and his sweet and light voice.
A very nostalgic text, music in which a bit of pop infiltrates. It’s not quite the usual Gazzelle, but I like it.
Even the lyrics, very beautiful and very loving: “I would like to look at the past with you/Against the wall with the projector
/Live it together for a minute or even three/Escape Northern Rome for a while

Dargen D’Amico – “High wave
Festive rhythm even if dramatic images are evoked. A very complex text to read calmly, but which he sings in a rhythmic manner and with his recognizable tone. One of the few pieces that evokes current events. After singing, he himself will mention the children who die in our Mediterranean Sea and the ugliness and uselessness of war.

Rose Villain – “Click boom!
A song that alternates a slow and relaxed rhythm. A song that will be a big hit and will climb the charts.
Rose Villain knows where to strike, and she doesn’t miss. The song is very commercial, catchy and will be danced and sung almost everywhere.

French Saints – “Love in the mouth
Well done Well done, a great piece from Sanremo, pop that couldn’t be more pop and which highlights their talent.
The French Saints are a mix of genres and disparate sounds. The duo brings a love song to the stage, as often happens it is a finished love affair that has “left with love in its mouth”. The electronics that impeccably accompanies the singer’s voice are very beautiful.

Fred DePalma – “The sky doesn’t want us
Pure disco music; music to dance to. Someone defined this text as the text of a repentant seducer: a kiss can sometimes save everything. Three minutes of great dancefloor. However, his voice is too amplified and distorted.

Maninni – “Spectacular
He is not known by the general public, but has his own niche in songwriting. We are in evocative pop. On the first day of summer a love that is born with music that you will never forget. The piece has its own innocence as demonstrated by this phrase “There are those who only seek diamonds, or the right formula for happiness”. We will oscillate between the judgments of those who praise it and others who will consider it the expression of a genre that is now outdated.

Alfa – “Oh!
He had achieved success on TikTok with the song “Bellissimissima” and is now on the Ariston stage. Not a bad transition. He is very young and energetic and it shows. A clean childish face. The initial whistle is nice. A piece with sounds between country and pop-dance which, in this way, diversify the Festival’s offering by taking it out of its comfort zone. Alfa wants to make this piece a hit. Will he succeed? The possibilities are there, but this year she will have to fight and elbow her way through it. All in all it’s catchy. Not bad for his young age.

The Three – “Fragile
Pop refrain, quite banal lyrics: “you are like an island, tears of glass”, an attempt at rhymes for the inevitable love story. This evening his ability to mix the pieces seems to have waned. He is last in the race and, unfortunately for him, I don’t see him destined to make big leaps in the standings.
