Azrou, 09/22/2024 (MAP) – The restoration of the chapel of the Toumliline monastery, in the heights of Azrou, testifies to the leadership of His Majesty Morocco is ''unique'' (Stéphane Séjourné)”>King Mohammed VI in the promotion of interreligious dialogue, underlined on Saturday , Aimee Cutrona, Deputy Head of Mission at the United States Embassy in Morocco.
“This achievement testifies to the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in terms of promoting tolerance and interreligious dialogue,” she told the press on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the end of the work to save the chapel of the Toumliline monastery.
She declared herself “satisfied” with this achievement which also constitutes “a celebration of the multicultural wealth of Morocco”.
She highlighted the importance of this project, carried out thanks to a collaboration between the “Mémoires pour l’Avenir” Foundation, the Ta’aruf Inter-Convictional Center of Rabita Mohammedia des Ouléma with the support of the Belgian Foundation. ‘Future 21” and USAID with the objective of preserving this exceptional historic site and perpetuating its message of interreligious dialogue.
The Toumliline monastery, founded in 1952 by French Benedictine monks, played an important role in the Azrou region.
The restoration of the chapel, carried out as part of the “Reinventing Toumliline” project, is an initiative which is part of this tradition of openness and dialogue, explain the partners of this restoration project.
Since 2021, the Memories for the Future Foundation has carried out actions to highlight the site and its exceptional history thanks to the support of the USAID-DAKIRA program.
