Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov arrived on an official visit to the capital of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing, where he will hold a series of discussions with the country’s military and political leadership.
OhRussian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stressed, during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Dong Jun, in Beijing today, that “military cooperation between Russia and China is an important factor in maintaining international stability.”
Belousov pointed out that Russia is counting on “intensive and fruitful cooperation with the Chinese side and will work to strengthen the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership in the field of defense.”
He stressed that “the friendly relations between Russia and China maintain a high pace of development, expand in all directions and have reached an unprecedented level.”
In turn, the Chinese Defense Minister pointed out “the two countries’ common desire to develop bilateral military cooperation, praising the strong friendly relations between the two countries,” and said: “We are continuing to strengthen our military cooperation and launch a new era of joint action.”
Last September, ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet and ships of the Chinese Navy, within the framework of the “Ocean-2024” exercises, carried out missile and artillery bombardment with live ammunition in the Sea of Japan.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement: “More than 15 ships participated from the Russian side in this episode of the maneuvers, including the command ship of the Pacific Fleet, the missile cruiser “Varyag,” the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov,” the anti-submarine ship “Admiral Panteleev,” and corvettes. “Sovershini”, “Ryzki”, “Eldar Tesdenjabov” and two submarines.”
The statement added: “Naval operations were supported by more than 10 aircraft and helicopters belonging to the Pacific Fleet and the Russian Space Forces. From the Chinese side, the destroyers “Xin Ying” and “Oshi” and the frigate Lin Yi participated.
