French people in September, here’s why” width=”1500″ height=”996″/>

A nice surprise that many employees didn’t think about.

This is the only line, or almost, that we look at. And this time, it will be good to read it carefully, because a surprise will be revealed. Expected for several days, the salaries have arrived (or will arrive) in the current accounts of all employees. The last line, that of “Net to pay”, brings good news for millions of workers: it is higher than usual.

The increase is not drastic but it is always worth taking a few extra tens of euros. A gift from the boss? A first gesture from the government? A business mistake in your favor? None of this. It is completely normal for many French people to receive a higher salary than usual in September.

While there has recently been talk of an impending pay change due to the change in withholding tax (end of October), a completely different aspect comes into play on this month’s pay: paid holidays.

As for all the other months of the year, the salary is paid “translated”, i.e. that of September concerns the days worked in the month of August. However, for many French people this is often synonymous with holiday. And when you’re on holiday the pay is different. You do not receive a salary but you pay holiday pay.

These are not only calculated on the basic salary. They take into account various incomes, accumulated between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2024: gross basic salary (or “flat rate”), overtime, sales bonuses, night work bonuses, Sunday bonuses, holidays, seniority, objectives, or even paid vacation benefits. However, the 13th month’s salary, profit sharing/profit sharing, holiday bonus or any other exceptional bonus are excluded from the calculation.

The sum of these various elements then allows the compensation for paid holidays to be calculated. Since the calculation basis is higher than the simple salary, the remuneration is therefore slightly higher. A method that “allows us to reward the dedication and efforts of employees, guaranteeing fair remuneration during holidays”, as underlined by Clarisse Demilliere, specialist in payroll issues.
