After the National Electroenergy System was restored last Tuesday in some areas, scheduled blackouts returned in all territories, continuing with the same scheme that existed before the collapse of Friday, October 18, which left the country without electricity for more than 72 hours.
In Sancti Spíritus, Yoanny Acosta Solenzar, director of the Electric Company, reported that, although on Wednesday, October 22, all circuits in the territory could be supplied during the early hours of the morning, limitations in generation capacity force rotating cuts to be maintained.
The Castro newspaper Escambray published a table of blackouts, which vary between four and six hours per block, which implies that each circuit in the region could face outages of up to 12 hours a day.
The state-run Unión Eléctrica announced a deficit of 1,042MW for Wednesday’s nighttime peak, which represents almost a third of the country’s electricity demand.
Since the restoration of the SEN, at 2:44 PM on Tuesday, scheduled damages have been carried out, similar to those implemented before the collapse.
The maximum impact due to lack of generation was recorded at 7:30 PM, with a deficit of 986MW, coinciding with the time of greatest demand.
Several units of the country’s main thermoelectric plants remain out of service, either due to breakdowns or maintenance, which adds up to 629MW that are not being generated.
In addition, 24 distributed generation plants are stopped due to lack of fuel, reducing production by an additional 95MW.
The electrical situation keeps the Antilleans in crisis and trying to survive amidst the limitations.
