Dhe International Motor Show IAA in Munich is coming under increasing pressure. Not only have numerous manufacturers canceled, the first event formats are also being canceled. The organizing Association of the Automotive Industry VDA and Messe München have informed the exhibiting manufacturers in a letter submitted to the FAZ that the event stage on Königsplatz will not be set up.

Because of the pandemic-related restrictions for cultural events, only a few seats could have been set up for spectators, it is said that it was therefore “with a heavy heart” that the decision was made to forego the stage. Presentations of products and services should take place there, but also lectures, concerts or yoga sessions on morning mindfulness. There should be space for up to 5000 spectators.

The car companies Ford, Dacia, Polestar and Kia want to exhibit at Königsplatz. Their stands in the so-called Open Spaces are not affected by the decision, according to the letter.

The IAA, which now bears the addition of “Mobility” and is already called “Bicycle exhibition with attached car area” by scoffers because of the numerous bicycle and accessory providers on site, is to take place in Munich from September 6th to 12th. The stage at Königsplatz was to be set up from September 7th to 12th. The exhibition is divided, one part takes place in the exhibition halls, another part is spread across the city. The IAA had previously been held in Frankfurt for decades and is now intended to reach new target groups with the hybrid concept.
