The Socialist Party will require all its candidates to undergo training against sexist and sexual violence

by time news

The Socialist Party adopted a resolution on Tuesday evening obliging every member of the party’s national authorities and every candidate in elections on behalf of the PS to undergo training against sexual and gender-based violence, it announced in a press release. The national headquarters of the PS “unanimously” adopted this resolution, which plans to offer this training to every new member.

“Our party, which is feminist, must be exemplary, especially towards its leaders and members. This fight must be led by everyone and not be delegated to a few activists”, specifies the text, which adds: “support for the victims must be clear and unanimous whether we are elected as responsible or whether we militate in the territories”.

An LFI MP has just been excluded

The resolution also provides for “the maintenance and operation of the listening cell and the commission to combat harassment and discrimination, so that all reports can be dealt with effectively”.

This resolution was passed while La France insoumise has just excluded its deputy from Isère Hugo Prevost, for “serious acts of a sexual nature” which could constitute criminal offences, before his election. These events allegedly occurred in particular within the Student Union, a left-wing student union co-founded by Hugo Prévost.

Insoumise’s France was shaken at the end of 2022 by the story of the deputy Adrien Quatennens, convicted of domestic violence, who entered the benches of the National Assembly just a month after his conviction. The LFI group had temporarily excluded him for four months, but several members of the movement had denounced his return when this sanction expired.
