Cooxupé and SMC Specialty Coffees reveal, this Friday, November 3rd, starting at 7:30 pm, which are and where the 50 best lots of specialty coffees harvested in 2023 come from. In advance, in the cooperative’s areas of operation coffee: South and Cerrado of Minas Gerais, middle Mogiana of the state of São Paulo and Matas de Minas. Firstly, the revelation and award come from Especialíssimo. In this sense, it is the Cooxupé and SMC program that rewards the cooperative families that produced the 50 lots considered the best of this year’s harvest.
Assessment
From now on, all selected lots have been evaluated by a team made up of 12 Q-graders. They are licensed professionals who have extensive knowledge in coffee classification and tasting. The person leading the team was Flávio Borém, head judge of Especialíssimo. First of all, Borém is a professor at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and a researcher specializing in specialty coffees.
Choice of 50 lots
Furthermore, Cooxupé and SMC explain that the ranking is made according to the scores of each coffee. Thus following the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association – Global) protocol. In this way, the note is a representation of technical and sensorial attributes.
In other words, characteristics such as the level of sweetness, the type of acidity and the time the flavors last in the mouth. In conclusion, they are all extremely important for classifying a specialty coffee. In this sense, every detail matters and was taken into consideration at the time of the evaluation.
