A reporter stated that the preparatory meetings began in the presence of Iraq’s permanent representative to the Arab League, Habib al-Sadr. Iraq’s ambassador to Egypt and his permanent representative to the Arab League, Habib al-Sadr, told the (INA) that “Iraq presented a number of its own items, which he requested to be permanent on the agenda.” The actions include supporting displaced Iraqis and condemning the Turkish intervention in Iraqi lands, in addition to other special items, which are supporting Iraq’s demands to release the families of Yazidi women kidnapped by the terrorist organization ISIS, in addition to blessing Iraq in its victory over the terrorist organization ISIS and supporting it in rebuilding what the organization destroyed. Al-Sadr said: “Iraq is with the Arab consensus on most of the items of the Arab Summit, indicating that at most President Fuad Masum will represent Iraq at the summit, and the Saudi ambassador has delivered the invitation to Iraq.” For his part, Minister Plenipotentiary Mahmoud Afifi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, stressed the importance of the Arab Summit in its twenty-ninth session. Which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the city of Dammam next Sunday, while the capital, Riyadh, will host the preparatory meetings. Afifi stressed, in his meeting with the media delegation accompanying the General Secretariat of the Arab League at the Dammam summit, that “the summit comes amid great challenges facing the Arab countries that threaten their national security.” . Afifi said, “The summit will discuss a number of important files, most notably the Palestinian issue, the crises in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, Iranian and Turkish interference in the affairs of Arab countries, and the fight against terrorism, in addition to economic and social issues.” He added, “This summit will enjoy broad participation by Arab leaders, and a large number of officials from regional and international organizations and groupings will participate, led by Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in addition to the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, and the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini.” In addition to Staffan de Mistura, the United Nations special envoy to Syria, who will brief Arab foreign ministers during the preparatory meeting for the summit on the international organization’s efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis.
