Every US interaction with Azerbaijan and Armenia is aimed at achieving sustainable peace.

As Day.Az reported on Tuesday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said this at a briefing today.

“Our goals in every interaction with the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan are to engage them in working to overcome differences and achieve a strong and sustainable peace agreement,” he said.

It should be noted that the US State Department’s senior adviser for negotiations in the Caucasus, Louis Bono, often visits the South Caucasus to discuss US support for the peace process between Baku and Yerevan and ways to achieve a lasting and dignified peace.

He regularly communicates with officials in Armenia and Azerbaijan to support the peace process.

During his visit to the region this March, Bono will meet with senior Azerbaijani officials to discuss efforts to reach a lasting peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

In particular, during the meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the current agenda and prospects for bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, the current situation in the region, as well as a number of aspects of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.

Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention issues arising from the meetings at the Munich Security Conference and in Berlin, Azerbaijan’s expectations regarding the peace process, as well as the country’s position on issues within the process that remain open. Azerbaijan’s commitment to the peace process was noted.
