Title: Empowering Women in Iraq: A Conversation with Yusra Al-Alaq
Interviewer:
Good morning, and welcome to Time.news. Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Yusra Al-Alaq, the Director General of the National Department for Iraqi Women at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. Yusra, thank you for joining us.
Yusra Al-Alaq:
Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here and discuss such an important topic.
Interviewer:
Let’s dive right in. You recently mentioned that the Supreme Council for Women is preparing to launch an electronic platform aimed at enhancing the role of women in society. Could you elaborate on what this platform will entail and how it will operate?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
Absolutely. The electronic platform is designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for women across Iraq. It will provide access to various services, including educational resources, legal assistance, and networking opportunities. Our goal is to create a space where women can not only find support but also engage with one another, share their experiences, and empower each other.
Interviewer:
That sounds promising. In what ways do you believe this platform will contribute to changing the perception and role of women in Iraqi society?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
This platform is a vital step toward normalizing the idea of women’s empowerment in our communities. By providing visibility and accessibility to resources, we hope to encourage more women to participate actively in society, whether it be in business, politics, or education. The more women contribute, the more society as a whole benefits, leading to a cultural shift in how women’s roles are perceived.
Interviewer:
It’s encouraging to hear that the government program prioritizes empowering women. What specific initiatives are underway to support this commitment?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
Multiple initiatives are currently in progress. We are working on establishing more women-focused programs in public services, fostering women entrepreneurship through grants and training, and enhancing legal frameworks to protect women’s rights. We also aim to increase women’s representation in decision-making positions, which is crucial for ensuring that women’s voices are heard in policy-making.
Interviewer:
Representation is definitely key. Changing gears a bit, how do you see the role of technology and social media in the empowerment of women in Iraq?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
Technology and social media have transformative potential. They can act as tools for women to voice their concerns, connect with leaders, and mobilize for change. Social media platforms have already played a significant role in raising awareness around women’s issues and enabling grassroots movements. With our electronic platform, we aim to harness this power to create a more connected and informed community of women.
Interviewer:
That raises an important point about connectivity. In your opinion, what challenges do women currently face in Iraq that you think this electronic platform can help overcome?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
One of the critical challenges is access to information and resources. Many women in remote areas lack the necessary support systems and information networks. Our platform will bridge this gap by ensuring that all women, regardless of their location, can access the support they need. Additionally, the stigma surrounding women’s roles in society can be tackled through awareness campaigns run via the platform.
Interviewer:
Lastly, Yusra, what message do you want to convey to the women of Iraq as these initiatives roll out?
Yusra Al-Alaq:
I want to tell the women of Iraq that they are not alone in this journey. The government is taking active steps to support and empower them. I encourage them to take advantage of the resources available to them, to strive for their dreams, and to know that their contributions are invaluable to the future of our country.
Interviewer:
Thank you, Yusra Al-Alaq, for sharing your insights and the exciting developments in empowering women in Iraq. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these initiatives.
Yusra Al-Alaq:
Thank you for having me. Together, we can build a brighter future for women in Iraq.
Interviewer:
That wraps up our discussion for today. Thank you for joining us on Time.news, and stay tuned for more updates on this important topic.
