Kolkata: Rinku Singh was the star as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Gujarat Titans by three wickets in the greatest last over thriller ever in IPL history. Rinku Singh gave Kolkata an incredible win with 5 sixes in a row when he needed 29 runs in the last over of the innings bowled by Yash Dayal and 28 runs off the last five balls. Therefore, in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the entire attention of the fans was on this twenty-five-year-old.

Batting first at the beautiful Eden Gardens, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 228 runs for four wickets in 20 overs on the strength of century hero Harry Brook. While Brook remained unbeaten on 228 off 55 balls with 12 fours and three sixes, the innings of captain Aiden Markram (50 off 26 balls), Abhishek Sharma (32 off 17 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (16 off 6 balls) were crucial. Andra Russell took three wickets and Varun Chakraborty took one wicket for Kolkata.

In the reply batting, Kolkata Knight Riders lost three wickets in 20 runs and smelled a heavy defeat. But Kolkata regained their confidence as captain Nitish Rana hit 75 off 41 balls with five sixes and six fours. When big actors Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell and Shardul Thakur failed, all the pressure fell on Rinku Singh. But Rinku overcame it to score his maiden IPL half-century.

When Umran Malik scored 29 runs in the last over, fans expected a Rinku show once again. With Thakur getting out in the first ball, all the calculations of this KKR went wrong. Only a smashing six off the fifth ball came from Rinku’s bat in this over. Sunrisers won by 23 runs as Kolkata’s struggle ended at 205-7 in 20 overs. However, Rinku Singh won the praise of the fans as he scored an unbeaten 58* off 31 balls with four fours and a six each.
