Spanish press reports over the past few days have sparked a lot of controversy about the possibility of Barcelona succeeding in signing Norwegian Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” confirmed that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is keen to sign Haaland as soon as possible.
For its part, Sky Germany refuted this news, as it reported that Laporta is not currently working on this major deal, especially since Haaland’s contract with the Citizens is extended until the summer of 2027.
She added: “At the present time, it is unlikely that Barcelona will move towards Haaland, although the Norwegian striker has dreamed of playing in La Liga since his childhood, but moving there now seems too early for him.”
The network confirmed that Real Madrid (Barcelona’s rival) is closer to Haaland than his Catalan counterpart, noting that the 24-year-old is likely to consider moving to the Spanish League after two or three years.
The deal is affected by Barcelona’s economic situation, which does not allow it to make a move of this kind at the present time, in addition to the presence of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski within its ranks.
The 36-year-old’s contract is expected to be automatically extended for an additional season, once he reaches a specific percentage of matches, according to the terms of the contract.
It is noteworthy that Barcelona was one of the options presented to Haaland when he was a player in Borussia Dortmund, but he preferred to wear the City shirt in the end.
