“This follows weeks of heavy operations that have resulted in civilian casualties and an almost complete lack of humanitarian aid for people in the northern part of the enclave,” said Tor Veneslad, the UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process.
Israel’s military said it stepped up attacks in northern Gaza in early October to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping.
A total of 87 people were killed or disappeared under the rubble after yesterday’s Israeli attack on Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, health authorities in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip said today.
Israeli forces said they were investigating the attack, one of the deadliest in months.
The Palestinian enclave’s Hamas-controlled health ministry said the strikes had killed hundreds of people since Israel stepped up its military campaign.
