Ukraine announced this Thursday the signing of a cooperation agreement with the United States to increase weapons production in the country, after the Republican opposition stopped a new aid package for kyiv in the Senate on Wednesday.

The agreement “it will facilitate the construction of production infrastructure in our country to provide the army with the necessary weapons,” the Ukrainian presidency indicated in a statement.

According to Ukrainian authorities, it was hit during a defense industry conference for Ukrainian and American manufacturers held this week in Washington.

“About 350 American, Ukrainian and European industrialists and officials attended the event”the note detailed, as reproduced by the AFP news agency.

Several large Western arms manufacturers, such as Germany’s Rheinmetall and Britain’s BAE Systems, have already announced plans to work with Ukrainian companies within the country.

Since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has relied on Western weapons and ammunition to resist Moscow’s troops.

But After almost two years of conflict, there are signs of growing attrition in Europe and the United States to provide more financial and military aid to kyiv.

On Wednesday, despite pressure from US President Joe Biden, the necessary votes were not achieved in the Senate to approve a new military aid package for Ukraine due to the rejection of the Republican opposition.

Republican senators blocked the initiative because Democrats refused to include in the package a set of reforms to stop the entry of immigrants.

The White House also warned that, if the aid package is not approved in Congress, Funds for Ukraine will run out before the end of the year and warned that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, will not stop in Ukraine.

“We are not in a position to make a promise to Ukraine, considering how things are in Congress,” The spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, told the press this Thursday, according to the Sputnik agency.
