The World Bank is conducting various partnership and cooperative activities to make Bangladesh’s capital market more advanced, modern and prosperous. In this regard, World Bank senior financial sector specialist Jolt Bango said that along with technology and technical support, they are working to develop human resources. He also said that the World Bank and IFC are working for the development of the economic sector in Bangladesh under the World Bank J-CAP mission for the development of the capital market of Bangladesh.
He said this at the workshop titled ‘Conference on Enhancing Securities Regulation’ organized jointly by BSEC, World Bank and US Securities and Exchange Commission on Sunday (October 27) at Securities Commission Building in Agargaon of the capital.

According to the press release, BSEC chairman Khandkar Rashed Maksud inaugurated the workshop. In this four-day workshop organized from October 27 to 30, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission; Officials and representatives of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank and Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC are participating. In the opening ceremony of the workshop BSEC Commissioner Mu. Mohsin Chowdhury, BSEC Commissioner Farzana Lalarukh and BSEC officials were present. Chairman of BSEC Khandkar Rashed Maksud delivered the opening speech in the opening ceremony of the workshop. Apart from this, Jolt Bango, Senior Financial Sector Specialist of the World Bank, Paul Gumage, Associate Director of the US SEC and James Gardiner, Economic Officer of the Embassy of the United States in Dhaka spoke at the opening ceremony of the workshop.
In the opening speech of the workshop BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsood thanked and congratulated the participants of the workshop and everyone involved in organizing the workshop. He said, “We are fortunate to be able to organize such a workshop with the help of the US SEC and the World Bank by experts who have tremendous expertise and experience in the field of capital markets.” Such workshops will help all stakeholders better understand each other’s perspectives on capital market responsibilities. We have always been interested in developing successful long-term partnerships and collaborative activities with the World Bank and the US SEC. Such partnerships and collaborative activities will further strengthen our relationship with the World Bank.
He expressed hope that many more such activities will be conducted in the future for the sake of the development and welfare of the country’s capital market.
James Gardiner, Economic Officer of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Dhaka, said that the United States is committed to playing a supportive role in the development of Bangladesh and the necessary reforms in the country’s economic sector. Regarding the organized workshop, he said that this is the first such activity in Bangladesh after August 5. We hope that something good will happen in the hands of newcomers in the changing Bangladesh. He thanked everyone involved in organizing the workshop.
US SEC’s Rix Strategic Nitish Bahadur, US SEC’s Associate Director Paul Gumage, US SEC’s Branch Chief Tom Swiers, US SIC’s Senior Special Counsel Celeste M. Murphy conducts training sessions on various topics related to capital markets.
The capacity of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank and Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC related to the country’s capital market will be increased through the organized workshop and it is expected to bring benefits to the country’s capital market in the future.
