How does Junior Eurovision promote messages of tolerance and inclusivity among young participants?
Interview between the Time.news Editor and Alexandra Redde-Amiel, Director of the Junior Eurovision France
Time.news Editor (TNE): Good morning, Alexandra! It’s a pleasure to have you here with us today, especially with the exciting event of Junior Eurovision just around the corner. How are you feeling about Titouan’s representation of France?
Alexandra Redde-Amiel (ARA): Good morning! I’m thrilled to be here and even more excited about Titouan representing France. It’s a significant moment, not just for him but for all of us involved in the journey.
TNE: Absolutely! Titouan’s song, “Comme ci, comme ça,” carries a powerful message about tolerance. Can you share what inspired him to make changes to the original lyrics?
ARA: Of course! At only fourteen, Titouan is incredibly aware of the words he sings. He felt that some parts of the original lyrics didn’t resonate with his personal understanding and experience of tolerance. He insisted on modifying certain words to ensure the message would be clear to his peers — words that reflect his youthful perspective and authenticity.
TNE: It’s remarkable to see such maturity at a young age. How do you think this decision to change the lyrics influenced the overall message of the song?
ARA: It significantly deepens the message. By putting his own touch on the lyrics, Titouan transformed the song from a simple performance piece into a genuine expression of understanding and acceptance. It’s not just about singing; it’s about connecting with listeners. He conveys that it’s okay to be different, which is a vital message in today’s world.
TNE: That’s a beautiful sentiment. How has Titouan’s creative process been in preparing for the competition? Is this his first time performing on such a big stage?
ARA: Yes, it is his first time at Junior Eurovision, which adds an element of excitement and nerves to the process. His creative journey has been collaborative; he worked closely with the original songwriters, Malo and Marie Bastide, who embraced his changes. The atmosphere has been positive and encouraging, allowing Titouan to truly express himself.
TNE: Collaboration is key to creating art. As the director, what do you hope both Titouan and the audience take away from this performance?
ARA: My hope is that Titouan experiences the joy of sharing a powerful message with a global audience. For the audience, I wish for them to feel inspired to embrace differences and promote tolerance in their own lives. Music is a universal language, and I believe it can foster understanding, especially among younger generations.
TNE: Certainly! With global participation in mind, how do you feel about the significance of Junior Eurovision on a larger scale, particularly in promoting inclusivity through music?
ARA: Junior Eurovision is a unique platform that allows children to come together and share their cultures and messages through music. It brings visibility to issues like inclusivity and acceptance on an international stage, encouraging dialogue across borders. It’s heartwarming to see young people advocate for tolerance and understanding through their art.
TNE: Perfectly said, Alexandra. As we wrap up, what message would you like to give to the viewers and supporters of Junior Eurovision as we head into the event?
ARA: I want everyone to embrace this event with open hearts and minds. Support all the young artists, as they bear a message of love and compassion. Let’s celebrate their talents and remind ourselves that, despite differences, we all share the same world and can make it a better place together.
TNE: Thank you so much for your insights, Alexandra! We’re definitely excited to see what Titouan brings to the stage and how he inspires others with his performance.
ARA: Thank you for having me! I can’t wait to watch the show unfold and see all the incredible talent on display.
