The Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba reported this Friday afternoon that unit one of the Lidio Ramón Pérez thermoelectric plant, in Felton, paralyzed its operations, due to alleged maintenance work.

The State company mentioned that the power plant has been stopped since 8 am on March 22 with the aim of carrying out cleaning work on the regenerative air heaters, the Mayarí Citizen Portal published on Facebook.

Eric Milanés Quinzán, general director of the industry, said that the work should be completed in approximately 36 hours.

It is planned to re-synchronize the unit to the system on the night of Saturday, March 23.

“The workers from the plant itself and the power plant maintenance company will carry out the cleaning tasks, which include the execution of 25 actions to raise the power of the unit to 225 MW. The burning of fossil fuel, especially domestic crude oil, generates debris that hinders the proper functioning of regenerative air heaters (CAR). The CARs recover part of the energy stored in the combustion exhaust gases in the boiler furnace, increasing the efficiency of the process,” Castro’s press reported.

The UNE did not highlight how this maintenance will affect the electrical service.

These services to the units occur in the midst of an electrical crisis that affects citizens and shows that the national system is on the verge of collapse.

Recently, the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant, located in Matanzas, left the National Electroenergy System again after just one day of operation, after completing a maintenance and synchronization period that lasted 17 days.

Through a statement issued by the official Guiteras website, it was reported that the plant will be “out of service for repairs,” although the details of the faults found were not specified.

The departure of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant occurs at a critical moment, as blackouts on the island keep the population desperate.
