The General Directorate of Traffic DGT has designed a special operation for the Puente del Pilar, between three in the afternoon on Wednesday the 11th and until Sunday, Sunday, October 15.

In addition to the officers who will be controlling the main roads, this organization has provided a series of recommendations, among which the best and worst times to get behind the wheel during these days stand out, in order to avoid traffic jams and accidents.

For these five days, Traffic foresees 7,450,000 trips throughout the Spanish road network, so traffic on the roads will be increased with long-distance trips to rest and tourist areas on the coast and in the mountains; short-distance trips to second residence and leisure areas close to large urban centres; as well as trips to towns that celebrate their patron saint festivals, mainly in the Autonomous Community of Aragón.

The traffic forecasts prepared by Traffic contemplate that in the early hours of tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, there will be significant vehicle movements due to the beginning of the festive period (especially between 4 and 10 p.m.), which will cause high intensities and traffic problems in exit from the large urban centers, as well as on the main communication routes to the coastal and rest tourist areas, second homes and party towns.

Intense traffic in the outbound direction will continue from the early hours of the morning on Thursday the 12th (mainly between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.), with special impact on the accesses and crossings of the towns where festivities are celebrated that day. In the afternoon, return movements can also be observed at the entrances to large towns as it is the next business day.

On Friday the 13th there will be the usual movements in and out of large urban centers as it is a working day and, in the afternoon, there will be movements out mainly towards second home areas due to the beginning of the weekend.

On Saturday the 14th, intense traffic will continue in the morning (especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) out of the large urban centers for the weekend, on short trips to second residence, leisure and recreation areas near the centers. urban.

Finally, in the early hours of Sunday afternoon (especially between 4 and 11 p.m.) the return of this special operation will begin, presenting traffic problems on the main communication roads that channel the entire return movement, notable for its intensity the network of general interest, highways and highways, to transfer the problems, already in the afternoon-night, to the accesses of the large urban centers.

For all these reasons, with the aim of promoting circulation in the most conflictive areas on each of these five days, the DGT has planned different traffic planning and regulation measures, among which are the installation of reversible and additional lanes with cones at peak traffic hours and the establishment of alternative routes. Likewise, road works will be paralyzed, the holding of sports events and other events that involve the occupation of the road will be limited, and the circulation of trucks in general and those transporting certain goods will be restricted on certain sections, dates and times.

Motorists and distractions

The DGT makes a special appeal to motorcycle users, after the previous weekend 9 of the 11 deaths in a traffic accident were motorcyclists.

Since most motorcycle trips are linked to the enjoyment of traveling at leisure, it is important not to forget that it is essential to maintain correct behavior on the road at all times to avoid the tragic consequences that failure to do so can have.

The profile of the deceased motorcyclist is that of a man between 35 and 64 years old who drives a high-displacement motorcycle, more than 10 years old, on a conventional road on a weekend. Therefore, a call to all those who are going to travel by motorcycle during this long weekend.

Likewise, it is recalled that during this week the DGT is carrying out a special campaign to monitor distracted driving; a campaign in which volunteers from Aspaym (Association of People with Spinal Injuries and other physical disabilities) collaborate, who approach drivers, when required by ATGC agents at checkpoints, to convey messages of awareness and respect for the Traffic regulations.

Agents, radars and works

The DGT operation has the maximum availability of the human resources available to the Agency (agents from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, civil servants from the 8 Traffic Management Centers and personnel in charge of maintaining equipment and of the installation of road measures, in addition to the emergency services personnel), as well as their material resources (780 fixed speed control radars, of which 92 are section ones, 545 mobile radars that can be embarked on the ATGC vehicles, 245 cameras and 15 camouflaged vans to control the use of cell phones and seat belts).

The DGT also has helicopters and drones for surveillance from the air and unmarked vehicles and motorcycles that will circulate on all types of roads in order to check the correct behavior of drivers while driving.

The heavy rainfall in the form of rain that fell at the beginning of September in several locations in Madrid and Toledo affected several road infrastructures, among which is the Andalusian Highway as it passes through Madridejos-Toledo.

The work that is being carried out affects the structure of the bridge over the Amarguillo River, kilometer 120 of the aforementioned highway, and involves the reduction of traffic lanes, establishing road traffic on a single lane in each direction.

This lane narrowing situation affects both exit and return traffic from the operation.

To alleviate possible delays that could occur during long weekend days, the DGT has established alternative itineraries to avoid the affected area. These routes will be duly signposted using variable message panels located on the affected highway and on alternative highways to the affected one.

It is recommended before starting a trip to check the weather forecast through the Meteorology Statal Agencyas well as information on the road situation through Twitter accounts @informacionDGT y @DGTes.
