Here we tell you which people are obliged to renew their plates in it State of Mexico (Edomex) for the year 2025.
In the Mexican entity, the replacement vehicle registration is a mandatory procedure which allows the vehicle park registry to be updated and thus guarantee road safety.
As it is mandatory, those who do not comply with the procedure will be subject to sanctions and fines, but to avoid this the Government of the State of Mexico established a deadline for people to renew their license plates.

Who renews plates in Edomex for 2025?
According to what is stipulated by the Mexican government, the replacement will be applied to all those who own vehicles whose license plates have been issued in 2020.
That is, the renewal cycle is every five years in the entity in order to maintain control of the vehicle fleet.
For now, the dates to start the process have not yet been announced by the Mobility Secretariat of the Government of the State of Mexico, so you must be aware of the agency’s media and communication channels.
Requirements to carry out the replacement process
Although the dates to complete the procedure are still unknown, we tell you the documents you need to do it, which are:
- Proof of address (electricity, water, property or telephone bills that are valid for no more than three months)
- Proof of current vehicle verification (necessary and mandatory to verify that the vehicle complies with environmental standards)
- Invoice of origin of the vehicle (you must prove or prove the purchase or acquisition of the vehicle)
- Official identification (INE, passport or driver’s license)
- Circulation card (must be the most recent and current)
How to complete the license plate renewal process in Edomex?
You should know that the procedure can be done in person (schedule an appointment on the website of the Semov to go to a nearby module) or online and here we tell you the steps to follow:
- Consult on the portal of the Secretary of Finance of the State of Mexico the updated cost and deadlines for 2025.
- Gather the requested documentation to start the process.
- Collect your Edomex 2025 plates every time you present proof of payment and the requirements in the service module where indicated or you have completed the procedure, if it was in person.
Once you have your new plates, it is necessary and mandatory that you carry out the vehicle verification and you will have a period of 60 calendar days to do so, since if you do not comply you will be entitled to a MORE from up to 20 Units of Measurement and Update (A), equivalent to more than two thousand pesos (figure for 2024, but for next year it would be higher).

This happens if you do not renew the plates in Edomex in 2025
It is important to say that by not complying with the replacement obligation in the State of Mexico, there will be fines and sanctions and here they are:
- Fine of 20 UMAS
- Vehicle removal to the corralón
- Unable to verify the vehicle
- Loss of tenure subsidy
