The Union of Cuban Journalists and its Circle of Sports Journalists invites the “José González Barros” National Sports Journalism Competition, in order to recognize the best works on this subject published between November 1, 2023 and October 31, 2024 by press Cuba. professionals, members of the organization.
A prize, consisting of a diploma and 2,500 pesos for the Best Journalistic Work without gender discrimination, will be awarded in each of the following categories:
- press and written information agencies
- Radio
- Television
- Hypermedia journalism
- Photography (for the best photograph or series of photographs)
- Television photography (your best work as a cameraman)
The jury will award the Prizes it considers in each category.
In each category, participants may submit up to three works. In the case of television and radio, programs will not be accepted.
A prize, consisting of a diploma and 2,500 pesos, will also be awarded for the Best Sports Cover of the Year in:
- Press and Written News Agency
- Radio
- Television
The cover files presented in each of these categories must include the generic variety and at least six jobs.
The Jury will also award the Awards it considers.
In addition, the following Special Prizes will be awarded, consisting of a diploma and 2,500 pesos each:
- Enrique Montesinos Delvaty Special Prize in the category of press and news agencies written for the best work in interpretative, investigative or data journalism, in honor of someone who has been a paradigm of sports journalism for more than 40 years.
- The Bobby Salamanca Special Award in the radio category, for the best sports reporting in any discipline, in honor of who was considered the best sports reporter in America.
- Eddy Martí Special Award in the television category, for the best sports reporting in any discipline, in honor of the first José Martí National Journalism Award among sports colleagues.
The deadline for submitting works expires on November 22, 2024
In the case of written press, graphic journalism and hypermedia journalism, the works must be sent in digital format to the email contactos@upec.cu
In the hypermedia category, authors can send the link to the website where the works are published.
Journalists who present works on the Radio will send their recordings to the email silvialike@gmail.com and ivonne.albelo@icrt.cu identified and specified in the subject: José González Barros National Sports Journalism Competition 2024.
Audiovisual Journalism works must be sent to SITVC duly identified and also specified in the subject: José González Barros National Sports Journalism Competition 2024 .
To compete for the Special Awards, up to two articles per journalist will be submitted, along with the broadcast date.

The jury, selected and approved by the UPEC National Presidency, will consist of 15 recognized sports journalism specialists in the country.
None of the members of the jury may have their own work or the work of family members in competition.
The jury will announce its decision at the end of the deliberations.
