Spanish La Liga president Javier Tebas has called on FIFA to cancel the 2025 Club World Cup. According to him, the upcoming tournament will lead to disorganization in the football calendar.
“Mr FIFA President, you know you didn’t sell audiovisual rights for the amount you wanted. You know you don’t have the sponsors you budgeted for and you know the leagues and the players union don’t want this world cup. Cancel immediately,” Tebas said.
Earlier, in relation to the updated format of the Club World Cup, the European branch of the International Federation of Professional Footballers’ Associations (FIFPro Europe) and La Liga filed a complaint against FIFA with the European Commission. In the summer, FIFPro filed a lawsuit against FIFA.
The Club World Cup in a renewed format will be held from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the USA. 32 clubs will participate in the tournament for the first time.
The games will be played in the states of New Jersey, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando (two stadiums), Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington and Atlanta.
