In a surprisingly even match, the RFS footballers could rightly feel disappointed after losing 0-1 in Frankfurt against one of the leading teams in the German Bundesliga Concord. Although the opponents had the upper hand, it was the Latvian champions who created more dangerous opportunities, but the realization was disappointing.
At the end of the game, the only goal was scored by Swede Hugo Láshon. The first half of the game was played in cautious football by both sides, although the hosts were clear favorites in the stadium full of 56,000 spectators. Concord the players were passive in the middle of the field, not particularly trying to take the ball away from the RFS players with aggressive pressing, who managed to control it for a long time on their side of the field. In the defense three, the usual place of Daniel Balož was taken by Rashid Nji, who played successfully in the autumn cycle. The 19-year-old football player coped with his duties successfully, repeatedly intercepting dangerous passes near the Riga goal. On the opposite side of the field, the hosts skillfully neutralized Cedric Cuadio, whose non-standard actions in the previous game caused a lot of worries for the Turkish giants Galatasaray defenders. In Frankfurt, Finnish midfielder Adams Markhiev stood out with such actions. It was he who had two of the RFS’ best attacking options. In the first half, he effectively fooled the German club’s defender in the penalty area, but from close range he hit the ball over the goal, and in the second half he hit the post after a beautiful slalom between Concord protection.
The last of these moments was especially painful because it happened soon after the only goal conceded. In the second half of the game, the coach of the home team rearranged the team’s game in attack and the gaps between the three RFS central defenders were clearly looked for. Such determination paid off in the end, as a little over ten minutes before the end of the game for a change
