Fishermen of the municipality of Cutzamala de PinzónGuerrero, dedicated to the extraction of mojarras in the El Gallo hydroelectric damgranted to the company Mexidroreported the death of more than 40 tons of fish due to alleged lack of oxygenation of the water.

The death of the fish, which occurred during the last days of December and the first days of January 2025, affects to the fishermen of eight fishing cooperatives located in the ejidos: La Cañada, Arroyo Seco, La Joya, La Laja, La Playa, El Tinbal, El Pinzán, Ojo de Agua and El Salitre.

Cooperatives of the Ejido Tiquicheo belonging to Michoacán were also affected by this event.

Antonio Serratosone of the affected fishermen reported that the death of the mojarras occurred because the National Water Commission (Conagua) did not open the gate of the “El Gallo” hydroelectric dam.

The complainant also assured that the affected fishermen held a meeting in Chilpancingo with Alfredo Zepeda CastorenaSecretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development of the state and the director of Conagua, Blanca Elena Jiménez, who promised to check the dam and provide help in the next 15 days.

The demand of more than 300 fishermen affected is to receive a compensation from the company Mexidro and of the Conagua Well, it is not the first time that this fact has been recorded and they already had a promise from the authorities that it would not happen again.
