The Clinical Hospital Mutual Security updated the status of the students who were burned after a fire registered in one of the bathrooms at the Barros Arana National Boarding School (INBA).
In the last medical report, the healthcare facility stated that 35 teenagers were injured by the action of the fire, where “Four are in a state of extreme seriousness, with life-threatening risk, although they are stable within their delicate situation” and one is “serious, but with a less severe condition.”
Rafael Borgoño, medical director of Mutual de Seguridad, stated “they all have burns of varying severity, three of them being minors and two being 18 years old.” The latter have already passed through the ward, waiting to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Biobío radio reported.
The doctor pointed out that “all patients are under sedation and with their airways protected, which ensures their initial stability, although the first 48 hours will be crucial for their evolution.”
For its part, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, expressed that what happened at the INBA “is a tragedy. We have more than 30 young people who have been affected, 17 of them seriously. It is an episode that confirms that many times we have said this same patio (of La Moneda); Molotov cocktails are weapons with a destructive power (capable) of injuring, causing immeasurable damage.”
In this regard, The Secretary of State reflected on the use of Molotov cocktailsensuring that “the seriousness of Molotov cocktails has been discussed many times, which is not a valid or acceptable protest tool.”
“We hope that what happened now will help ensure that no young person, no student ever again considers the use of this tool as a possibility. Yes“Whatever the protest is, the cause for which you want to mobilize,” he stated.
