What began as an idea among a group of Guatemalans in California in the 1980s has grown to become an annual event anticipated by the Guatemalan community in and around the city of Los Angeles.

This is how the Dolores Strike began to be celebrated in Los Angeles
During an interview with local media, Walter Rosales, one of the co-founders of the Dolores Strike in Los Angeles, commented that the idea arose in an informal meeting between Guatemalan friends. “Between jokes, drinks, between glasses of wine, as the poem says, a group of Guatemalans met, we began, between jokes and jokes, to say words that we used at the time of the strike,” commented Rosales about the beginnings of this celebration in Californian soil.
