This past midnight the Professional Women’s Soccer League (League F) and the different unions (FUTPRO, AFE, Futbolistas ON, UGT and CC.OO.) that represent the players reached an agreement to call off the strike.

The players demanded better conditions and negotiated their Collective Agreement to return to the playing fields. After negotiations between employers, union and SIMA, a figure has been reached that allows the competition to return this Friday.

A collective agreement of 16,000 euros

The main demand on this occasion has been the minimum wage. «It all starts because the footballers have had a collective agreement since 2019 with a minimum salary of 16,000 euros that can be lowered to 12,000», stressed Amanda Gutiérrez, president of Futpro, during an interview on Cadena Ser.

In addition, he pointed out that, with the data managed by the union, there are 91 footballers who currently earn less than 23,000 annually, the figure they initially claimed. However, the amount that has allowed the ball to roll again is somewhat lower.

2023/2024 season (current): 21,000 euros

2024/2025 season: 22,500

2025/2026 season: 23,500

Futpro points out in a statement that, in addition to these minimums, the figures could increase “based on the profits obtained from commercial assets and other sources of commercial income proposed by the unions, such as matches played by a selection of first division players.

2023/2024 season (current): from 21,000 to 23,000 euros

2024/2025 season: from 22,500 to 25,000 euros

2025/2026 season: from 23,500 to 28,000 euros

The intervention of SIMA

To reach this agreement, long and arduous negotiations between both parties have been needed, which ultimately have lasted up to nine and a half hours. Nobody seemed willing to give in since the employers closed at 20,000, while the unions demanded 23,000. To resolve the conflict, the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA) had to intervene with a proposal that finally closed the agreement.

The strike by the footballers has prevented the F League from starting on its scheduled date and the competition will begin on the second day. As reported by League F, the first day will be recovered in the future on a date yet to be determined and in coordination with the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
