Mercedes-Benz’s classic model 300 SLR Uhleenhout coupe has earned the reputation of being the most expensive car in the world. The auction of this vintage car took place last day. The auction was held for $ 143 million (approximately $ 11 billion).
The auction was held in secret. The auction, held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, was attended by only a handful of people. Simon Kidson, a British man, made a successful bid for an unnamed client.
The purchaser has informed that the car will be on public display at important times. This car was built in 1955. It is one of two prototypes developed by the Mercedes-Benz Racing Department. The vehicle is named after the car’s chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenenhot.
The second car will remain owned by the company. The car will be on display at the Mercedes – Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
The Ferrari 250 GTO, built in 1962, was auctioned in 2018 for $ 48 million. This record has now been surpassed by Uhlenenhout.
