The forty-somethings, but not only them, keep a fond memory of “K 2000”, the “exploits of a solitary knight in a dangerous world”, the “knight and his mount”, this “hero of modern times” on the car of the future, as the credits of this cult series said. Scheduled in the show “A fond la cashier” (on the Cinq) at the end of the 80s, then until 2009 on several channels, it featured the adventures of the vigilante Michael Knight at the wheel of KITT, an ultra car perfected.

It is this fictional car, full of gadgets, that David, a resident of Troyes (Aube) now aged 52 and a professional electronics teacher, decided to recreate. “A childhood dream,” he admits. He will present his “baby” this Sunday March 24 during the “Toys of our childhood Expo” event in Saint-Parres-aux-Tertres. The adventure, which can be followed on la page Facebook Knight.10.riderstarted seven years ago while watching the TV show Wheeler Dealers (RMC Découverte) with his son.

“My little boy, now 14 years old, asked me when I was going to repair an old car,” recalls Aubois. He then scoured numerous websites to buy himself a cinema car. After hesitating between the DeLorean from “Back to the Future” and the van from “A-Team”, David finally chose the car from “K2000”, the series from his childhood. He went to Brittany to buy the original model, a Pontiac Firebird which he had to modify to create his own KITT. “I was looking for a financially accessible vehicle but there was work! », he smiles.

If some work had already been carried out by the previous owners of the car (hood, wheels, interior of the vehicle), David had to look at the most difficult such as the bodywork, the dashboard or the electronic components. “There were three years of hard work to create a car identical to the one in the series,” explains the Trojan. As in the series, KITT is now able to speak, light up like a “Christmas tree” with more than 300 lights shining behind the steering wheel and even rotate its license plate!

In addition to his teaching profession, the fifty-year-old created his own business “Knight 10 Rider”. He now exhibits his machine at weddings, private events, and trade shows dedicated to pop culture. “I realize that lots of people are happy to see KITT, it’s now in the collective imagination! », says David. His KITT will therefore be out this Sunday March 24 in Saint-Parres-aux-Tertres, very close to Troyes. Imagined by a group of friends, the “Toys of our childhood” exhibition will allow collectors to meet, exchange and hunt together.

Vincent Paris, the organizer, is well aware that the fifty-somethings are “nostalgic for their past years”. By finding their “Proust madeleines”, they return to childhood! “Toys,” he said, “are something we all had in common!” » During this weekend, bargain hunters will be able to delve into the 1970s, 80s and 90s. They will (re)discover cult toys (Barbie, PollyPocket, Pogs, etc.), collector’s items (Goldorak, He-Man, Knights of the Zodiac) but also old video games and comics.

For lovers of fine mechanics, members of the Les Mobeurs de Champagne association will present their mopeds. “People in their fifties and forties are in a phase of their lives where they tend to look retro,” notes Vincent Paris, himself a passionate collector of vintage games. In a zapping society, post-Covid, “it is now time,” he assures, “to share memories, it’s a great gateway to creating connections.”

Toys of our childhood exhibition this Saturday, March 23 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and this Sunday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Deterre-Chevalier room in Saint-Parres-aux-Tertres (Aube). €2 entry, free for under 10s
