The match also marked Thorir Hergeirsson’s last game in Norway. The Icelander is stepping down after the European Championship in November and December.
Hergeirsson has led Norway since 2009, and in the 15 years, the team has won 16 championship medals, ten of them gold.
Before the European Championship in Switzerland, Hungary, and Austria, there will be a new preparation tournament in Denmark in November.
At halftime, the score was 15-15, but after the break, there was no doubt: Norway scored six goals without a response from the Netherlands. The score of 23-17 made it more comfortable for the Norwegian team.
Ingvild Bakkerud was Norway’s top scorer with six goals.
The Norwegian team opened with a 32-30 victory over Germany on Thursday. On Saturday, they defeated Denmark 26-22.
– Norway has defeated three of what will become strong opponents in the European Championship, said TV 2 commentator Harald Bredeli.
Hergeirsson let several players get playing time towards the end of the match. The Norwegian team is undergoing a generational shift with captain Stine Oftedal Dahmke having retired. Veronica Kristiansen (pregnant), Nora Mørk (injury), and Vilde Ingstad (injury) are also absent from the team that won Olympic gold in August.
Goalkeeper Katrine Lunde was rested for the match, and Eli Marie Raasok was in goal with Silje Solberg-Østhassel on the bench. Raasok started well but later faced some trouble in the first half. After the break, she was in good form and had 15 saves with a save percentage of 38 when there were five minutes left.
After the European Championship, Ole Gustav Gjekstad will take over the reigning Olympic champions.
