The Cabildo of Tijuanain Baja California, issued an emergency declaration before the possible mass deportations announced by Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States, a situation for which certain measures will be taken in order to address the migration phenomenon.
The reaction of the Tijuana government will include the search for legal instruments, acquisitions and contracts necessary in the municipality, since since December 2024 Donald Trump threatened to carry out “the largest deportation effort in American history” as soon as he assumes the presidency; this during the closing of a Republican Party meeting at the Fiserv Forum, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
According to figures provided by the Government of Mexico on December 27, at the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum, currently 38.4 million Mexicans reside in the United Statesof which 4.8 million are undocumented migrants.
Tijuana prepares budget movements to address possible mass deportations
The Cabildo of Tijuana empowered the Municipal Government Secretariat to address the issue of possible mass deportations announced by Donald Trumpwho will assume his second term as president of the United States starting on January 20, 2025.
In that sense, the Secretariat of Government of Tijuana, as well as the agencies that are determined, will be in charge of searching for the legal instruments to provide support to migrants, a situation for which property acquisitions and contracting for deported people.
That said, the government of Tijuana instructed the Municipal Treasury to carry out budget movements without affecting the operations of the agencies or other entities of the municipality.
Mass deportations from the United States to Mexico: Claudia Sheinbaum meets with her cabinet to address the migration phenomenon
The theme of mass deportations that Donald Trump threatened generated a response from the Government of Mexico, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, who met with her presidential cabinet to review the actions that will be taken before the arrival of the president of the United States, on January 20.
At the meeting that took place yesterday, Monday, January 13, at the National Palace, the following were present:
