Toyota Yaris GR was introduced already 3 years ago and now it is undergoing a slight mid-life refresh, the main part of which concerns the improvement of performance. The chassis of the Yaris GR is actually a combination of the GA-B platform in the front and the larger GA-C in the rear, which mainly affected the length figure with an addition of 5.5 cm more than the regular Yaris and a length of almost 4 meters (399.5 cm ). Toyota states that the renewed model received a stiffening of the chassis that came by increasing the welding points by 13% and expanding the structural adhesive areas by 24%.

Externally, the front bumper is more aggressive and emphasizes the air intakes and vents. At the back, the change is negligible and now includes an updated diffuser and a slight penetration of the lighting units into the trunk door and a lighting strip connecting them and above it the third brake light (previously placed above the rear window).

The interior design shows a more noticeable change, instead of the usual passenger compartment of the regular Yaris, now the dashboard is designed in keeping with the rally models, with its central part facing at an angle towards the driver, and housing the multimedia screen and the climate control panel. The side air conditioning vents have become round and the dashboard has been fully digitized (12.3″ screen) and includes quite a bit of telemetry data.

The drive unit remains the same, a bold 1.6-liter engine but with 3 cylinders, compared to the High Performance version that was produced in a limited edition at the beginning of the Yaris GR, now the power is 280 hp (an increase of 8 hp) and 39.7 kg m (an addition of 2 kg). Compared to the familiar version, this is an increase of 19 hp and 3 kg. By the way, in the Japanese market, the renewed version now offers 304 hp.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual box as before, but now an 8-speed automatic box is also offered, which was of course developed by the “Gazo Racing” workshop, and is designed for quick gear shifting, and according to the manufacturer, when measuring laps on the track, the automatic version managed to be faster than the manual version. Also, an upgraded cooling system that includes a cold intake system and sprinklers for the intercooler are offered as an option straight from the factory.

The dual drive is as smart as before, with the ability to transfer 100% of the power to each of the axles with each of them having a “Torsen” limited slip differential. The braking system also remains the same with a 356 mm disc brake in front and a 4-piston caliper and a 297 mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper. These sit inside 18″ forged BBS rims wrapped in 225/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
