Less than a week after the French Championships, the track riders are moving on. Head to the Netherlands and the Apeldoorn venue, scene of the European Track Cycling Championships from January 10 to 14.
In difficulty during the World Championships in Glasgow last summer, the French delegation hopes to start 2024 on a better note. As a reminder, in Scotland, the Blues only won five medals, but none in gold (two silver, three bronze). Worse, the sprinters were content with a meager bronze medal in the men’s team speed event. A poor record which pushed the Federation to commission former national coach Gérard Quintyn to accompany the sprinters in their Dutch adventure.
This year, the French hopes will focus on Oscar Nilsson-Julien, just crowned French champion in the points race this Sunday at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome and on Rayan Helal, who retained his national title of individual speed.
On the women’s side, the 2022 speed world champion Mathilde Gros, who did not participate in the Franco-French games last weekend due to illness, will be at least as expected as Marie-Divine Kouamé. The latter comes out of a more than successful French Championships with a triple keirin, individual speed and 500 meters.
As a reminder, the European competition marks the first major deadline for qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Wednesday January 10 – 7:05 p.m.: Elimination race and men’s team sprint, women’s team sprint.
Thursday January 11 – 6:30 p.m.: American race, men’s time trial and team pursuit, women’s team pursuit and scratch.
Friday January 12 – 6:30 p.m.: Men’s individual pursuit and scratch, omnium and women’s individual speed.
Saturday January 13 – 6 p.m.: Men’s Omnium and individual speed, time trial, points race and women’s elimination race.
Sunday January 14 – 4:45 p.m.: Men’s points race and keirin, American style race, keirin and women’s individual pursuit.
