The Ecuadorian police released images of how they captured several masked men who forcibly took over a television channel.

Apparently, the Government announced a tough crackdown on drug trafficking and the creation of prisons similar to those in El Salvador, this supposedly provoked the anger of the drug groups who took to the streets to impose terror.

The TC Television facilities were taken over by one of these groups, who with heavy-caliber weapons threatened journalists, presenters, cameramen and assistants when they were on a live broadcast.

The police surrounded the place and after a two-hour raid arrested at least 13 of the criminals. At the same time, they warned other television networks to remain alert to the possibility of similar things happening.

The situation generated panic in various cities, with businesses closing early and chaotic streets full of people rushing to return home. Classes went from in-person to online until Friday.

Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and the United States expressed their support for Quito and rejected violence.

Peru declared its entire border with Ecuador under a state of emergency and will reinforce surveillance, its government reported.
