In his closing speech, Amirou Ousmane Dicko, Emir of Liptako, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their engagement and significant contribution to the discussions. He stressed that peace cannot be achieved without the involvement of communities. “What we learned most is that it is impossible to bring peace without communities. The community must be able to get involved in security solutions. Everyone has forgotten what they were as a community and everyone must return to their roots”he said.

The Emir also reminded customary and religious leaders of their roles as guardians and protectors of peace. “We are the guardians and protectors of peace and it rests on us. We must work to convince those who took up arms to come back to their senses and home”did he declare.

“Let us call on all our communities to cultivate and strengthen unity, solidarity, fraternity, tolerance, acceptance of our differences, dialogue, forgiveness. We must understand and accept that, beyond our social differences, we have the same homeland and we have a duty to protect it.”he added.

The discussions highlighted the need to revitalize local cross-border initiatives. The leaders agreed that cooperation between communities across borders is essential to counter cross-border threats, such as terrorism and illicit trafficking. They also highlighted the importance of education and empowerment of young people to create opportunities and prevent their radicalization.

Concrete recommendations were made, including the establishment of cross-border communication mechanisms, the creation of community vigilance committees and the strengthening of collaboration between the security forces of neighboring countries. Participants further advocated for economic and social development initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of local populations.

In conclusion, the closing ceremony was marked by a solemn call for unity, solidarity and collective action.
