This Tuesday, the Council of Ministers authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to put out to tender, through ADIF High Speed, the framework agreement for the supply and transport of rail for the construction of new lines and the duplication of track of existing high-speed lines. speed. The contract amounts to 110.7 million euros. Among the sections that will be doubled is the one that runs between Olmedo and Zamora, on the Madrid-Galicia high-speed line, which in 2015, with Ana Pastor at the head of the Ministry of Public Works, It opened with a single track, although with the platform prepared so that it could be deployed later. It is a 63 kilometer section out of a total of 95, which at the time was decided to operate in a single route to save costs, in the midst of the financial crisis. Later it will be necessary to put out to tender the electrification installations.

In the new rail access to Galicia, the 32 kilometers between Pedralba (Zamora) and Vilavella (Ourense) will remain to be unfolded, which includes reforming the old Padornelo tunnel to adapt it to high speed. Currently, work is being done on the first section to avoid the passage for the 18 kilometers of single conventional track with mixed gauge between Taboadela and Ourense. In the coming years, the ADIF has set itself the objective of eliminating these bottlenecks, which put a limit on the capacity and the number of frequencies on the line, in a context in which there are also more railway operators thanks to liberalization.
