SAN CANDIDO. Yesterday afternoon, Friday 27 December, the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di San Candido carried out a coordinated service of extraordinary control of the territory aimed at the prevention and repression of crimes relating to narcotic substances, carrying out inspections at the numerous places frequented by young peoplewhere the so-called events are usually organized in the afternoon after skiing.
The operation saw the involvement of Carabinieri dog units, trained in drug search and detection. The initiative, which is part of a broader program to prevent and combat trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances, took place in some of the most well-known mountain refuges in Sesto and San Candido, near the area called Tre Cime – “Drei Zinnen”, frequented by young people looking for fun and entertainment, after a day on the slopes.
The police, assisted by drug-sniffing dogs, carried out targeted checks, both outside and inside the premises, in order to guarantee the safety of the participants and prevent illicit behaviour. During the operation, several investigations were carried out, which led to the discovery and seizure of over 25 grams of hashish and the reporting to the competent administrative authorities of two young Italians residing outside the province. The substance found will be sent to the Carabinieri laboratories in Bolzano in the next few days for the usual analyses.
The Commander of the Company of San Candido, major Simone Carlinideclared: “The presence of law enforcement in the places where young people gather most is essential to guarantee a safe environment and respect for the law. We will continue to monitor the situation, especially on occasions of large influx, such as the Christmas holidays, thus trying to be a deterrent towards the consumption of illicit substances, especially by the many young people who frequent the mountains”.
