Chennai: Sankaraiah, a senior leader of the Communist movement, passed away yesterday due to ill health. Kerala Chief Minister and Tamil Nadu political leaders have condoled his death. In their obituary they said:
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan: Shankaraiah, who lived as a companion of the working people, traveled with senior leaders during the Indian freedom struggle. He devoted himself completely to public life from his college days. His death is an irreparable loss to the working people and the communist cause.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin: The life and sacrifice of Shankaraiah, who entered into public life at a very young age and lived for the Indian country, the working class and the Tamil land until the age of 102, will forever remain in history. In 2021, on the occasion of Independence Day, I personally visited him and presented him with the first ‘Tagaisal Tamil’ award. I was moved by Sankarayya’s honor of donating the huge amount along with the award to the government for the Corona relief fund. He owns a life of sacrificial sacrifice that can be called special by him. My deepest condolences to all those who are bereaved of Sankaraiah, a fighter who fought against caste, class, oppression and dominance throughout his life.
Puducherry Chief Minister Rangasamy: Sankaraiah was a great fighter in public life for more than 90 years. Purity in private life and honesty in public life, he set an example for those involved in public life. His passing is an irreparable one.
