Christopher Landau, former ambassador of United States in Mexicowas nominated for Donald Trump to occupy the position of Undersecretary of State in his governance. The announcement was made through Truth Social, where the president-elect highlighted the diplomat’s career and contributions during his previous mandate.
“I am pleased to nominate Christopher Landau for this critically important position. “Chris will work alongside Marco Rubio, our nominee for Secretary of State, to prioritize the security and prosperity of our nation through a foreign policy that puts America first,” Trump said. Likewise, he praised Landau’s work in Mexico, where “he was key to reducing illegal migration rates.”
For his part, Landau expressed his gratitude and emotion for the nomination, which he dedicated to his parents, both linked to the American Foreign Service.
“I look forward to working alongside Senator Rubio to implement President Trump’s foreign policy agenda,” he added.
Landau, A lawyer by training and diplomat by appointment, he served as ambassador to Mexico between 2019 and 2021. Even though he lacked previous experience in diplomacy, his direct and active style marked his management, especially on issues of trade, security and migration. During his mandate, he emphasized the need to control the border to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

Our goal was to strengthen the bilateral relationship, which led to mutual benefits in managing migration flows more effectively.

A: My advice would be to remain adaptable and build strong relationships. The landscape of diplomacy is constantly evolving, and understanding the cultural nuances of our neighbors is invaluable. Engaging with local communities, comprehending their challenges, and working collaboratively can significantly enhance diplomatic efforts and lead to triumphant outcomes.
