Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke to a crowd of voters in Oaks, Pennsylvania on Monday evening. Both presidential candidates are campaigning in the key swing state just three weeks before the Nov. 5 election.
As Day.Az reports, The Independent reports this.
Trump sought to highlight his support among black and Latino voters, citing a recent New York Times and Siena College poll. He encouraged Americans to get out and vote on Election Day, but came with a major caveat.
“I’ll tell you if everything works out and everyone gets out on January 5th or earlier,” Trump told the crowd, apparently unaware of his mistake.
Social media users quickly began mocking the former president, claiming he mixed up the final date to vote and the anniversary of the day a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.
One person joked on Twitter: “He got the date of his coup mixed up with the date of the election.”
Note that no state allows voters to vote after Election Day. Some votes cast absentee or by mail may be counted after polls close but must be postmarked on or before Election Day.
